What is Climate Advisers Whistleblower Policy?
Climate Advisers is committed to operating in furtherance of its mission and values and in compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, including those concerning accounting and finances, and prohibits fraudulent practices by any team member. Fraudulent practices are defined broadly, and to include corruption, embezzlement, fraud, theft, forgery and financial irregularities. Such practices have in common the purpose of acquiring an unwarranted gain for oneself or others.
A whistleblower as defined in this statement is a team member who reports an activity that he/she considers to be illegal, dishonest, and/or otherwise fraudulent. The whistleblower is not responsible for investigating the activity or for determining fault or corrective measures. Therefore, if a team member has a reasonable belief that another team member has engaged in any action that violates any applicable law or regulation, constitutes a fraudulent practice, or violates the mission, values or policies of Climate Advisers, the team member is expected to immediately report such information to the Manager/Director of Human Resources or the head of Climate Advisers. The team member, however, must exercise sound judgement to avoid baseless allegations. A team member who intentionally files a false report of wrongdoing will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Whistleblower protections are provided in two important areas – confidentiality and against retaliation. Insofar as possible, the confidentiality of the whistleblower will be maintained. However, identity may have to be disclosed to conduct a thorough investigation, to comply with the law and to provide accused individuals their rights of defense. Climate Advisers will not retaliate against a whistleblower. This includes, but is not limited to, protection from retaliation in the form of an adverse employment action such as termination, compensation decreases, or poor work assignments and threats of physical harm. Any whistleblower who believes he/she is being retaliated against must contact the Manager/Director of Human Resources immediately. The right of a team member for protection against retaliation does not include immunity for any personal wrongdoing that is alleged and investigated.
Climate Advisers may take disciplinary action (up to and including termination of employment) against any team member who in management’s assessment has engaged in retaliatory conduct in violation of this policy.
